First Responder

Our First Responder course provides comprehensive training in first aid, CPR, and emergency care for individuals working in professional response roles. This 40-hour program equips participants with the knowledge and skills to assess and manage medical and trauma-related emergencies, using dynamic, hands-on training based on real-world scenarios.

Perfect for those currently in—or training for—frontline emergency positions, the course also meets legislative training standards and is recognized across a variety of industries.

Who Should Take This Course?

This course is ideal for:

  • Fire service personnel and workplace response teams

  • Lifeguards, ski patrol, and rescue professionals

  • Sports-medicine and athletic safety staff

  • Individuals preparing for careers in emergency response

  • 40 hours in-class

  • Recertification: 20 hours

​What You’ll Learn

Participants will be fully engaged through practical demonstrations, skill-building sessions, video content, and simulated emergencies. Key topics include:

  • The role of the professional responder

  • Anatomy, physiology, and scene assessment

  • Airway management and respiratory emergencies

  • CPR and AED use

  • Circulatory emergencies, shock, and bleeding control

  • Soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries

  • Head, spinal, chest, abdominal, and pelvic trauma

  • Managing acute and chronic medical conditions

  • Poisoning, environmental illnesses, and overdose response

  • Pregnancy, labour, and care for special populations

  • Crisis intervention and patient support

  • Reaching, lifting, and extricating patients

  • Multiple casualty incidents and coordinated scene response

  • Jurisdiction-specific content as required

Certification Details

  • Certification: 3-year First Responder certification (digital certificate upon completion)

  • Prerequisites: None

  • Completion Requirements:

    • 100% attendance and participation

    • Minimum 75% on written, closed-book exam

    • Successful completion of two evaluated scenarios (1 medical, 1 trauma)
